“Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence.  Talent will

not.  Nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent.

Genius will not.  Unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.  Education

will not.  The world is full of educated derelicts.  Persistence,

determination, and hard work make the difference.”

                                                - President Calvin Coolidge

I’ve been enjoying a book that my wife recommended.  It’s one of her favorites…and after years of periodically taking it out of the Library…it was decided we should own it.

This is my first reading of it, and it is no wonder that she enjoys it so.  There are many pages that generate the kind of cognitive thinking that over time shapes one’s life.

Today’s point to ponder deals with one of my greatest weaknesses, and thus, one of my greatest opportunities for growth.  It speaks of judgementalism.  I suspect that it is an inherent part of the human condition.  If that is true, then you too may find this perspective enlightening, as it invites us to, “dare to love in a world that does not know how.”

The author quotes another writer…identifying them only as “Coleridge.”

Point To Ponder:

“The Jews would not willingly tread upon the smallest piece of paper in their way, but took it up; for possibly, said they, the name of God may be upon it.  Though there was a little superstition in this, yet truly there is nothing but good religion in it, if we apply it to man.  Trample not on any; there may be some work of grace there, that thou knowest not of.  The name of God may be written upon that soul thou treadest on; it may be a soul that Christ thought so much of as to give his precious blood for it; therefore, despise it not.”

“There is a loftier ambition than merely to stand high in

the world.  It is to stoop down and lift mankind a littler

higher.”
