bloom-where-you-are

How many times have you caught yourself saying, “if only my circumstances were different?”  If only I were taller, thinner, better looking, had a better job and way more money.  If only lady luck would stride along side.  Guilt is like oxygen in this case.  We’ve all breathed it.

But consider nature.  In her splendid simplicity, she reminds us that even when the environment seems inhospitable, and less than ideal, great shows of strength and beauty are still quite possible when the seedling heeds the call to “bloom where you are.”

I attended a really cool commencement ceremony this weekend.  A neighbor of mine completed his seminary training at The Interdenominational Theological Center here in Atlanta.  The auditorium was loaded to the rafters with many gifted orators.  As you might imagine several “points to ponder” were shared with the graduates.  This is but one of those stories.

Point To Ponder:

In hopes of expanding market share, a large shoe company sent two of its finest sales people overseas.  They were not on the ground for more than a day when the first called back to ask his company to book him a flight home immediately.  “The plan will be a bust,” he exclaimed, “as the people of the this country do not wear shoes!”  Shortly thereafter, the other sales guy called in excitedly to announce, “we are going to make a killing…as no one here has any shoes!”

Which mindset will you carry with you today?

I of course wish you a positively fantastic week brimming with opportunity!
